Just a little (link) love: Lemon Lyman edition

West Wing has been the order of the day; it’s my tv destressor when I’ve got too much work, not enough time and just about enough brain to handle about half of it. Asked which my favorite character is, I just couldn’t choose. I love Leo. I love Toby. I love CJ. I love Mrs. Bartlet. I could go on but I may as well just link to IMDB.
CAREER + MONEY THINGS
How prepared are you? VH at Funny About Money is prepping herself for a surgery and medical treatment and I’ve been working on a list very much like hers, in case of emergency.
Japan Times covers “maternity harassment“: discrimination in the workplace against women who are pregnant, on child-care leave or have returned to work after giving birth. Society, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t insist on women must have kids and then punish us for having them. Same goes for fathers, of course, it’s ridiculous to offer leave that your culture actually doesn’t allow fathers to take.
*scowl* TSA is trying to raise their fees. Harumph. I STRONGLY disapprove. Not just because of the money, I despise the inconsistencies and lackadaisical manner in which they do their jobs. Oh and BTW they’re imposing new rules which will be super fun because my phone is stupid and shuts down sometimes and refuses to power back up for ages.
Princess Cristina, sister of King Felipe VI, indicted on tax fraud and money laundering charges. You can indict royalty?
Rusty of National Zoo escape fame fathered red panda cubs with his mate Shama. Is it just me or is it weird that the news is framing it as “settling down” as if his break for actual freedom was philandering? I think it’s weird. But cute red panda cubs, so…
For years I held out against what I thought was just a Harry Potter craze, but then I picked up one of the books and was hooked. I’m continually amazed by the writing that hits all the right notes: very easy to read, but not dull and simplified, engaging dialogue and action, really fun world building. And of course, then Tumblr got hold of Harry and his friends… (oh that last one)
