CAREER + MONEY THINGS

Startups are rarely the answer for what ails you

Post Ellen Pao verdict

Why there won’t be a (middle class) revolution

Faulty work/life narrative: It’s all on mom
This was a narrative I’d internalized for a while but am very glad to say that it’s not at all how things played out and that’s because we both step up.

FUN THINGS

I DO write for therapeutic reasons. Much cheaper than a therapist.

He punched a bear.

INTERESTING THINGS

GamerGaters still insist it’s about ethics in journalism, while the guy who started it all: “Gjoni has sometimes claimed that he simply wanted to warn people about his ex-girlfriend. But over the course of several months, he described to me how he painstakingly crafted “The Zoe Post,” a post that detonated with ruthless force and efficiency, for maximum pain and harm.”

Baltimore: “This can erupt anywhere in socially economically deprived America,” Mosby said. “This is bigger than Freddie Gray.” I’ll note too that when you know that your life is valued less than a piece of property, when you know you’re a perfectly respectable person and citizen but you can be gunned down for any reason a police officer wants to give simply because you’re black, why wouldn’t you be hot under the collar?

I’m glad RDJ walked out and BTW the fact that he didn’t sooner is that he was doing what women are socialized to do: go along and not make others uncomfortable. Remember: “You know what? You’re weirding me out.” is a totally valid reason to get the hell outta Dodge.

Ways to help fight racism

Don’t be a shit, y’all

Police dogs

No matter my opinion of the humans who use them, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the police dogs, having worked with them for several years. Most were wonderful dogs.
