Just a little (link) love: Hamilton edition

CAREER + MONEY THINGS
The color of debt: In both my family and community, I saw the same cyclical problems of not having enough income to pay essential bills, getting behind, and continually losing traction because of it. This was a large part of why my parents, after decades of killing themselves working 16 hour days, and never taking a day off, couldn’t dig out of the holes without my help. It took a whole other income-earner, plus massive amounts of overtime, and no additional debt from me, to break that cycle.
FUN THINGS
My future with LB? Oh great. We seem to be working on the non-words (but very verbose anyway) version of #1.
I cried with laughter reading this post on parenting. So much true. Thanks, Anne! I don’t know if there’s another topic people get more judgy and stupid and contradictory about but parenting is fraught with all of that.
- “One time, this one thing happened when a baby was 2 weeks old, and that baby grew up to be Prime Minister / a serial killer / a star athlete / a master chess player / a real creep / way too into Star Wars. Can’t possibly be a correlation! Must be a causal link.” (Pediatricians are especially great at drawing these types of data-based conclusions.)
- …as long as you take all of the knives out of the crib, you’re doing okay.”
- “Babies literally just got here. They have no idea what’s going on”
INTERESTING THINGS
Security and boarding passes: I had a sneaking suspicion that shredding my old boarding passes was a good idea.
Youth court: More effective at reducing recidivism.
My Shot, Hamilton Musical
I love every second of this track from the Broadway musical.
I’m just like my country, I’m young, scrappy and hungry and I’m not throwing away my shot.
That parenting link was killer. I died laughing.

So much truth.
That airline ticket link was kind of terrifying. It makes perfect sense when you think about it, but it’s terrifying still. I think I have some paper to shred when I get home from work.
Isn’t it a shame that if you just assume there’s going to be too much information about you available, you’ll be right most of the time?
I just spit my drink all over the desk. #1 is hilarious. If you think it’s bad now wait til your little bean turns two or three 🙂

My world is at #2 with Miss “I’m 5 and three quarters”. It is, um, difficult to keep my cool sometimes. I may not always succeed.
I don’t think we’re meant to always succeed, isn’t that why we don’t remember the first six years of life so very well? 😀
