Just a little (link) love: Tickled Koala edition

CAREER + MONEY THINGS

Do things. That’s all for this week.

FUN THINGS

I’m not a snacker but I do love the Boy Bawang Garlick Cornick snacks! Also I just tried the Adobo flavor and those were mm mm good.

INTERESTING THINGS

Dads, come to music class. I’m proud to say that we don’t have these issues. We’re either both there, or PiC takes the lead as frequently as I do on most things right now and I hope that can always be the case. We’re doing our best to make sure it is, anyway.

Crystal is keeping on with the Big Brother Big Sister program. This is something I’d love to add to my life in my dream early retirement.

I would like idiot politicians to get the heck out of the doctor’s chair, please. This ignorant prat of a governor, Charlie Baker, thinks that the way to combat addiction is to limit all prescriptions of pain medications to a THREE DAY SUPPLY. “The days of people walking out of a dentist’s office or doctor’s office with 30 or 60 or 90 days worth of this pain medication need to come to an end,” Baker said.

I take back my “I wouldn’t wish this on anyone” stance about my pain and fatigue. I wish it on him and all the legislators like him who think this is a reasonable solution for a problem that is NOT ours. I’m not addicted to any pain medication, but I fill a 90-day supply when  something is working moderately well at the time. None of them work that well for me but if they did, of course I would want to have a reasonably steady supply of the stuff that allows me to live and work like a human! What, I have time to be going to the doctor/pharmacist every 3 days?? Who does? This is just another way to really put the screws on people already living with challenges due to pain. Jerk.

  1. BABY KOALA! TICKLED! OMG. Cuteness overload.

I too, wish pain on these people who think that they can prescribe and can in any way, possibly feel the same thing that people who are suffering are feeling.

Mine is a very mild story compared to yours but I suffer from a serious motion sickness problem. Once my motion sickness kicks in, it’s over for the next 24 – 48 hours. I can’t move, the room is spinning, I’m throwing up and all I can do is plead for myself to not get worse. (Getting dizzy just thinking about it).

I once had a guy tell me to “suck it up” because “it can’t be THAT bad, I think you’re faking it”.

I wished very badly he would be afflicted by it and feel the way I feel every single time I take a chance on any kind of transportation aside from walking (even walking sometimes does me in).

Love the link about dads going to music class. My husband took our four year old to the doctor with me on Monday. I am grateful for his flexible schedule. He burdens himself at night and other times to be there for him when he needs it.

    Love the baby koala!

That pain med thing is really unfair, to say the least. Other maintenance meds are OK, but not ones for pain management? WTH?!

People truly don’t understand even the idea of chronic pain and that’s forgivable to a point, but to fail this spectacularly is monstrous.

    Love that music class article!!

My position is unique in that I work 6p-6a for four days, and then have four days off. This means that for four days in a row Bob is in charge of dinner, bed time and middle of the night wake ups. He loves it. I think if we could figure it out he would stay at home with Oli.

Just assuming one parent is going to do all the parenting is a crazy notion, and a dad doing half the work shouldn’t be a novelty!!

Re: Charlie Baker: Yup, it sure is easy for people who are living with chronic pain to go to their pharmacy every three days! And with the new laws regarding prescriptions for pain medications, patients already have to make a special trip to their doctor’s office for each and every refill. So if he had his way, they’d have to go to their doctor’s office every three days PLUS the pharmacy??? I think that’s enough of a hassle for people like me who live relatively close (15-ish minutes) to their doctor’s office, but what about rural folks who have to drive a good distance to reach a pharmacy or their doctor? Seething. I am seething.

    • Revanche says:

Yep, because we all have 2+ hours in our weeks, twice or three times a week, to hassle at the doctor AND at the pharmacy. Time, transportation, energy. All things we have in abundance. *continues to throw eye-daggers at him*

  6. SP says:

Wow, way to throw out a blanket solution without understanding the real reason pain medications exist in the first place! That is just terrible. Maybe he has some modest point about certain ways these meds are prescribed (I don’t know what is typical) – but chronic pain suffers shouldn’t be lumped in with someone who has a dental procedure and needs pain meds for a limited period. This is NOT the solution.

The music class article just made me really sad. I like to imagine that we live in a progressive utopia where this kind of thing happens less, but I am kind of sure that my imagination will be corrected if we actually have a child.

IME, people who have very limited term needs are only given pain meds for a short period. I had my wisdom teeth out a long while back and was given a prescription for exactly 7 doses. I was never offered large RXes when it wasn’t clear if my needs were relatively short term, and my doctors used their discretion. It’s appalling that they presume to regulate all of the doctors and patients with an ill-considered proposal like this.

  7. […] I always feel like the lead parent. When my partner stayed at home to watch Baby Bun when I went back to work, he confessed to not correcting people when they said things like: “Oh so you’re working from home today?”. No one ever assumes a Mommy is working from home; whenever I go to pick Baby Bun up or do things during the day when I am actually working from home, they just assume I’m a stay-at-home mom & invite me to activities and things during the day. : H/T to Revanche […]
