Nabbing an Olympics berth at 18 must really be something. Congrats to Vashti!

I noticed that Amazon wasn’t showing list prices recently. I still do my usual price comparisons on camelcamelcamel anyway, and never cared about the percentage discount, only about the final price I’d be paying, so this doesn’t really affect how I behave as a consumer but it’s interesting to see how Amazon’s changing their approach.

I’m kind of happy that a Worst Boss candidate wrote to Alison for advice so that they can get the advise they deserve!

I’d seen some advertising for Samantha Bee but had no clue who she was. This Rolling Stone articleshared an excellent hiring practice though. By removing artificial barriers for applicants, she hired a bunch of people who hadn’t already broken into the field. I wonder what other industries could use this idea to good effect.

FUN THINGS

Family friendly holiday destinations. Not sure we’re quite ready for this yet but I like to have a mental log of possibilities.

Farewell to Lin Manuel’s original cast Ham4Ham performances. I’m trying not to be sad.

INTERESTING THINGS

Canada’s welcoming of refugees brings tears to my eyes. Where is our humanity that we can’t manage to help people who don’t have roofs over their heads? It feels personal, because my life would never have been what it is if my parents hadn’t been helped by sponsors. And I have made good on that help thank you very much.

The ephemeral and subjectivity of taste

I don’t know why I keep reading these murder stories but this one’s more about the woman who became a PI so that she could track down her friend’s murderer, and did it.

  1. I love LMM but losing Leslie Odom Jr. from the cast list is truly devastating. *goes and listens to the soundtrack for 12 hours straight*

  2. You should give lessons on how to build a truly interesting round-up post! Once again: amazing.

Those murder mystery things have roped me in, too. Have been hooked by the forensic examiner documentaryoids on Amazon Digital.
