Good Things Friday (113) and Link Love

April 16, 2021

1. I’ve had Burn Notice on in the background so I can work / pump. I don’t remember who my favorite was before but this time around, my favorite character is actually Jesse Porter. I’m annoyed at the opening credits calling him a “down and out spy” though, considering how they really met him.

2. I accidentally fell into sorting, packing, storing, and organizing six boxes of kids’ clothes on Saturday instead of working on the thing I wanted to do. I’m very very tired now but that was awfully satisfying. I wonder if I can squeeze in the data storage project tomorrow…

3. We agreed to a trial run of PiC taking the overnight shift with Smol and I actually got a bit of sleep and I forgot how amazing sleep feels. More please 🥺

Challenges this week: Recovering from sleep deprivation is hard to do when you’re continually sleep deprived! We need to have a serious word with this non-sleeping baby.

Just a little link love

I don’t identify as an HSP but I do identify with many parts (in bold) of this article on the subject of reopening: “This past year has been difficult beyond belief, but the one silver lining for many Highly Sensitive folks was that it was finally socially acceptable to stay home more often. Obviously not under these conditions, but it was something that most of us had dreamed of for so long. For the first time, there was a break from the constant pressure to socialize, stressful family dynamics, crowded commutes, or overstimulating work environments.

The past year may have provided you with a lot of space to think on what wasn’t working for you before. Maybe you now realize you don’t want to be as available, need stronger boundaries with certain people, want to structure your work life differently, or feel called to be more involved in social activism. What insights have bubbled up for you?”

Confessions of a Venmo Voyeur. Is it weird that I didn’t realize Sara Benincasa was any sort of celebrity or celebrity adjacent? I know of her from Twitter and somehow that normalized her. In any case I’ve always had my Venmo settings set to the maximum private setting because the public nature of those transactions bothered me.

Photoshopping history: The true story behind the smirking man of Tuol Sleng. This story was wrenching, but this passage rings so true for my family. I have cousins who, 30 years later, still haven’t gone back to our country of origin: “I stress this point to many people – when they leave the country, only take close relatives to come with you at the airport. You never know if you’ll ever go back, or if you go back, you’ll never know if your loved one will be there,” he said.
