Just a little (link) love: baby shark edition

February 15, 2018

Maggie is SO close to paying off their mortgage.

Harry Potter + The Addams Family would be perfect.

We tried tax loss harvesting in 2017 and I’m pretty sure I did it wrong in retrospect. I’m not sure if we’ll be trying tax gain harvesting any time soon but just in case you want to know, J Savvy talks about how he did it.

Holy crap, artichoke pizza needs to happen in my life.

Kara’s Ten Financial Commandments to live by

This was a hard read for a lot of reasons: When I Was Married, I Was Rich. Then I Got Divorced

The real supervillain (SMBC)

A dramatic story of dodging the FUBAR bullet (Part 1 and Part 2)

There’s a lingering thought that one of these days, I’m going to do something worth selling so I keep reading these articles on selling and pitches to tuck the knowledge away. I’m mulling over what kind of parenting article might be worth pitching to a magazine but nothing has bubbled to the surface yet.

I mentally categorize our money like Jim’s Time Capsules. It helps me decide each priority and what to do with them.

The staggering cost of training a figure skater. I thought daycare and private school were exhorbitant. And the physical toll … I can’t imagine welcoming that into my kid’s life.

BABY SHARK

I haven’t shared this daycare gem, yet?!

Thanks for sharing my tax-loss harvesting article!

The article about “When I Got Married I Was Rich,Then I got Divorced”…ouch…..that is my life….. down to the husband cheating and leaving me with four kids…. sigh. The only difference is that I always worked, so I do have a secure retirement, relatively speaking… thank goodness…

    • Revanche says:

I’m so glad that you worked enough to still have a retirement after he left. I worry so much about friends who are staying with their breadwinning husbands but don’t have any control over the money.

  3. OMG, my kids loved Super Simple when they were babies! They were especially mesmerized by the owl and moon version of twinkle twinkle little star… ahhhh fond memories. šŸ™‚

I don’t know if I’d be able to do my own tax harvesting properly either. Yet another reason I’ve outsourced the management of my stocks & bonds.

    • Revanche says:

I’ve just discovered Super Simple, and we’re really enjoying it!

I am slowly converting myself to the indexing strategy but now it’s a matter of timing. Definitely don’t want to sell off stocks during a correction šŸ™‚

I love the baby shark song! My kid did it at daycare with actions (lots of versions on YouTube). Although in the friendly version you posted, the carnivorous sharks did not get to eat šŸ™ Haha!

My very old iPad did not allow me to click on your links so I am enjoying them on my new device!

    • Revanche says:

Hah! I didn’t know there was a version where the sharks got to eat! šŸ˜€

Yay for a new iPad that lets you enjoy the links šŸ™‚

I work at a school with elite athletes. We have figure skaters along with several other sports. We have several alumni in the Olympics (a dozen or so? I’m curious if we are the high school best represented, but our alumni are playing for at least 4 different countries) I have mad respect for my students and all they achieve. That said — I am really unsure if I’d want my kids to go through that. It is a ton of work and emotionally and physically demanding. It’s hard to balance school with the sport as well.
