Archive shows medieval nun faked her own death to escape convent
A far far better financial independence manifesto from Solitary Diner than that racist drivel that was shared under the guise of being “contrarian” or a “maverick”. Ugh.
Matt Lane steps up to the plate with a very logical point by point response to the nonsense published last week. This is a very long read but well worth the time.
David figured out what the manifesto was about – Mr. G shilling for money.
Zero making the hard choices and going back on chemo.
Frogdancer on Chipping away at large tasks. I particularly resonated with this bit: “The research finds that the more writing kids are allowed to do, especially ‘low stakes’ writing, the better their skills get.” I was a TERRIBLE writer in high school, but blogging for years on my own helped me get out of the Embarrassingly Bad Zone to Passable.
Tami on chipping away at life’s obstacles bit by bit and sticking to it.
Vicki Robin on her life and FIRE: “I don’t see financial independences as the ultimate goal. I see it as just a ticket to the greatest show on earth – the earth itself with all her beauty, complexity, critters and currently crises. The opportunity to ask the Mary Oliver questions: What are you going to do with your one wild and precious life?”
I adore the Blair Braverman + Quince Mountain team’s sharing of dog sledding on Twitter. They’re training for the Iditerod at Alpine Creek Lodge now. Long long ago, I was obsessed with dog sledding because dogs, of course, but didn’t have anything like today’s access to the spot from my own warm spot at home.
Go, Big Dog!
We love watching agility videos with JB, this is an excellent one!
Thanks for the nod!
We used to have a couple of French mastiffs living next door. (Pretty much the same as this mastiff, but redder in colour.) They were HUGE. The boy’s front paw was as big as my mini dachshund’s whole body when we brought her home as a pup.
Their owners couldn’t take them on long walks, particularly in the heat. They’d get too tired. If a dog that big lays down and refuses to walk any more, it’s not s if you can simply pick them up and carry them home!
Oh my goodness, I used to be so frustrated trying to get my littlest dogs to walk, I can’t imagine even trying to budget a mastiff 🙂
Honestly, my Masitffs eat less than my 55lb Staffie did. You have to budget in a little more for flea meds and the like, but overall, the expenses are pretty much on par in my experience.
