Good Things Friday (152) and Link Love
January 21, 2022
1. Last month, we had stocked up on rapid test kits at a huge markup for our travel ($300 worth 😱) but for various reasons didn’t use them all up as I had expected. I felt a bit foolish for miscalculating so when someone I know peripherally on Twitter mentioned an inability to get any tests at all, I was glad we could offer a few of ours. This shouldn’t be an issue but of course this country in this pandemic….SMH. This was just before the announcement that we could order free kits in the mail but that’s a whole 4 kits per address if you can even get them (as of Tuesday, people in multi-household buildings like apartments could not).
2. I organized our coupons and menu drawer and PiC’s t-shirt drawer. One drawer/section at a time!
Challenges this week: We had to make the call to push childcare again. It feels a LOT less bad than going in the middle of a surge with no vaccines but it still feels … rough.
A Jorts Update (0 days since trashcan incident)
I don’t like the texture of pulses but Deb’s Smitten Kitchen lentil salad recommendation is, as usual, a winner. I took the shortest possible route to this with the precooked lentils and the bruschetta because I have absolutely no time for Deb’s from scratch version right now but I definitely want to make hers when I can. For the easy version next time, I want it with a lot of diced cucumber and onion for crunch. JB hoovered it up and asked to have the rest of the leftovers for lunch or snack, so we’re gonna call this one a win.
This is absolutely appalling: Police in this tiny Alabama town suck drivers into legal ‘black hole’
I’m not sure I can see any good outcome from this Ask A Manager post: my coworkers told my boss I talk about my baby too much
All things that made me laugh this week
One of my favourite kids was on the news tonight in Toronto and I have officially died. I’m dead. The name plate alone. Gold. pic.twitter.com/3XNs27oHoh

Ordered our home tests from covid.gov (I think that’s the address — it was so easy). Our college is giving everyone (students, faculty, staff) two KN95 masks and telling us to go get more ourselves, so even though I try to avoid trash, I’ll be wearing those. Happily, I might add. I wish I’d designed my cloth masks more in the shape of these masks, because they’re very comfy.
Now I want to see if I can get MY dog to chase flashlight spots. Just delightful!
I was also wishing the same about our cloth masks, I don’t know if I can adapt them or if we’ll just have to keep those for lower risk situations.
Good luck with getting Prewash to chase the flashlight, please share if you do! Sera will have nothing to do with that XD
ooh the jorts update and the exhausted Christmas Story kid were also highlights of my week! p.s. do you know about Bunny the dog that uses buttons to talk to her owner? I just discovered this and I’m FASCINATED: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8k2upr9vCE

Nice work on the slow and steady drawer clean out. I cleaned my utensil insert out the other day and felt SUCH relief. I’d been meaning to do it FOR YEARS.
Glad y’all are getting tests and masks. Hope things calm down so y’all can take advantage of daycare again very soon.
I am still chuckling about both the Jorts update and the Exhausted Kid.
Oh I hadn’t seen that Bunny the dog! I love it!
Yay for the utensil cleaning!
Daycare is, unfortunately, very very far off for us now 🙁
