Good Things Friday (199) and Link Love

December 16, 2022

1. You’d think I could come up with at least one good thing this week, eh? But it’s been a hell of a week and the best thing I can say is I was able to work from bed a few days this week (and I should have done all week) which has given me more than the bare illusion of rest that I was faking when I called sitting at my desk and working “rest”. Here’s to a better next week.

Just a little link love

Fuck that guy and his quarter-assed apologies that don’t admit to racism: Purdue Northwest chancellor apologizes after racist Asian language impression onstage at commencement

update: my ambitious, driven self is gone – and I don’t feel like working anymore. This headline is very me and this line in particular resonated with me: “apparently, I have some very ingrained ideas about the “right” way of doing life (spoiler: It’s the hard way).” I get so grumpy when people (it’s always conservatives) deride others for “not wanting to work anymore”. I think that’s sloppy rhetoric but also so what? I’ve worked for over 20 years solid now, and I just turned 40. I’m mentally done with work. If we had enough for me to feel confident with just one or no working salaries, I’d be outta there.

An old article but funny because I thought Terry Pratchett just made this up: The fascinating reason why clowns paint their faces on eggs

Murderbot!!!!!!! Hoorah! I’ll have to stage a re-read next year.

Wow thank you for that clown link – I had absolutely no idea and that was a fascinating glimpse.

    To a better week!

Sorry there wasn’t anything good this week! I totally relate to that ambition link, and am super excited for the idea of a sabbatical where I chill out a bit for a year. I don’t know that I’m mentally done with work – I do like my work, and it is a reasonable workload and flexible and all that. I just want a big break!

After feeling like that for ages (re the career link) I am now feeling a bit of motivation again? I even put myself forward to fill in for our manager when she’s on mat leave. Didn’t get it, which is for the best – but yeah, trying to discern what I really really really want out of life and career in the near future. I can never think much more than beyond a couple years…

Hey that’s great! It took me 3 years after JB to get any back and I’m not sure if I’m going to get any back after Smol 😕

Since reading your blog & then seeing your support of the Lakota people – I hopped on-line, found their site, made contact & sent off $1,000 order from Costco in time for Christmas! Snacks & books to the Allen Center. THANK YOU for sharing what you do – you pick up some of us stragglers along the way who often want to help & just don’t know where/how. I am going to continue to support this group throughout the year – and get started on finding bargains long before Christmas!

Thanks again! Wishing you & your family a beautiful & blessed Christmas season.

Susie, you have made my whole week! Thank you so much for doing that and for sharing with us.

Stay safe and healthy this holiday season!

Just wanted to add that your blog inspired me to donate to your efforts for the Lakota (you definitely stretched the dollars far better than I could) and also support a family from the holiday Okini. I appreciate all your efforts!
