Good Things Friday (235) and Link Love
August 25, 2023
I wish I remembered the good thing that I accidentally deleted from here because I have SUCH a headache now from a whole week of working on forcing school admin to do ANYTHING about a kid bullying my kid that I can’t remember anything good right now.
Spotless giraffe, thought to be only one in world, born at Tennessee zoo

A very old post of Scalzi’s that I’d not read before: What I Think About Atlas Shrugged
Which led to his When the Yogurt Took Over: A Short Story
Someone referenced Isabel Fall and I didn’t know what that story was so I went looking. This is what I found: How Twitter can ruin a life.
The studios went public with their WGA offer. Was it a mistake?: One legal expert said the decision by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to release details of its offer could run afoul of laws governing collective bargaining. A National Labor Relations Board rule forbids management from circumventing union negotiators because both sides have a duty to negotiate in good faith.
This is a bad headline so I’ve grabbed some text from the article to clarify what they did. For the record even though professionally I’m in management, I’ll always be on the side of labor and I hope the WGA and SAG-AFTRA break the studios unbelievably greedy grips. They deserve to be paid real living wages. The farce that is Hollywood accounting, claiming movies never made a profitable, for example, including massive blockbusters to avoid paying the actors, writers and directors what they’re owed needs to be smashed to pieces.
To quote a friend: “WGA members have been on strike for 100 days today, asking for employment security, a living wage, and the paths to build careers that give us great TV & movies. Support them by joining them on the line, or donate to the Entertainment Community Fund”
We’re putting our money where our mouth is and are donating to the Fund to help support folks who are on the picket lines. Very few of the people who work very hard to bring us television and movies are paid in the high numbers, most of them barely make a living wage and this strike means they can’t make money to pay their rent.
The spotless giraffe!!! I’ve seen that news article all over the place lately and it makes me so happy ♥️ I hope this upcoming week gives you lots of good things to talk about next time, and that the school gets it together already!
My comments filter are this and dozens of other comments, just found you! Thanks for good wishes.
