1. We had an abundance of plastic containers from our Hello Fresh experiment days. While we had to recycle some to make space, I keep finding new uses for the remainder. Reusing perfectly good containers makes me very happy, as does finding that we have containers the exact right size for a thing I need.
2. Despite his own exhaustion, PiC took the kids out for a few hours on Saturday so I could rest and it was the best I felt all week. Not having to be up and parenting or talking was such a relief.
I am absolutely sick over the constant stream of horror that is life in America. This latest school shooting where the police did absolutely nothing to protect the children being slaughtered, for an HOUR, isn’t even a surprise. It’s heartbreaking and sickening but not a surprise. I hate all of this. I hate that we don’t take domestic violence seriously. I hate that we ignore the links between DV and eventual mass shootings. I hate that the NRA has a stranglehold on the politicians who could do something about this but definitely won’t.

1. I don’t know if you remember but last fall, I was stressed. And one night, since fabrics were on sale and I needed a project to distract from the horrible stuff going on with COVID, and work, and our stress-faces at home, I bought 16 yards of fleece. That’s right. 48 feet of fleece. You’d think that at some point I’d do the math and realize we were about to be eyebrows deep in fabric but nope, that didn’t dawn on me until the fabric arrived and one of the designs just shipped on the roll. I’d bought so much they chucked the whole roll into a shipping container and called it good. I made four blankets of various sizes and designs for ourselves, and now I’m in the final stretch of my Stress Case Fabric Adventures. I think these last 9.5 feet will make one more blanket for a nibling and a pillow.
2. I MADE A ZIPPER POUCH!! Zippers were going to break my brain but fixing one mistake after another, texting my sewing sisters, on Sunday, I managed to complete a whole functional zippered pouch! Yes, you can buy all kinds of pouches but the sizes I need are really quite expensive. This cost $7 for a yard of fabric (which will yield 2-6 pouches depending on sizes) and $1.50 per zipper. The learning curve was a heck of a thing and it’s very clearly amateur work but it’s for personal use so that doesn’t matter.

1. There’s something incredibly satisfying about putting my stationery box in order. All the cards are neatly ordered with their envelopes now.
2. I got to spend a few minutes on my sewing project this week. With a lot of luck, maybe I can spend some time actually sewing soon? Perhaps?
3. Any night we can get everyone in bed before 8 am is an excellent night. It’s rare but we had one of those this week.
Challenges this week: I’m begging the universe to let this sleep regression end. Please please please let us sleep through the night and until a decent hour.
Under five vaccine. We need an effective under five vaccine!!

1. I packed up 35 lbs of baby gear and clothes, mostly clothes, for donation! I have a third box waiting to be packed but I have to emotionally prep first to remove Smol’s recently outgrown clothes from hangers. It always makes me a bit sad!
2. I perused a local wholesale bakery website, curious whether they had a storefront like some of the other wholesalers in the area, but they did. I mused aloud, “well darn. Now I want pastries.” PiC muttered “hm, trying something here… ” as he took an exit off the freeway. Five minutes later we pulled up to a 24 hour donut shop! Whee!
3. I’ve been doling out toys from friend’s box one every few days and there are a couple that Smol keeps coming back to repeatedly, they really enjoy dropping things down a spiral chute and stacking rings.
The loss of Roe v Wade is just the beginning, I’m sure. Support these folks fighting for reproductive rights and providing reproductive care:
National Council of Jewish Women, @NCJW, also they’re organizing a rally that I can’t attend so I will donate to support instead.

- The book fair has come to town and boy howdy do I love the book fair even if I don’t buy anything.
2. After multiple fails with the Waterloo brand, I realized we still have Spindrift water. Turns out I like it better when the alternatives are cherry yuck flavors from Waterloo! My sparkling water experiments are on hold until we get through everything we have. Plus side: I’m doing a little better with hydration given the push to drink up the existing waters.

1. We bought an apple pie from a bakery on Monday and we’ve been sharing a big slice for dessert each night since. $23 for a treat all week.
2. PiC also had surprise cheesecake happen earlier this week and it tasted like the Real Thing. I haven’t had that in a while. Nomz.
Giving: Child and Family Relief – feeding families in Afghanistan.
Cars are more expensive than expected, Quiara needs a bit more help to get over the hump for their move out of Arkansas.
Challenges this week: Childcare. Please. But no, none for us because ….
Vaccines for under-5s, please.
Still zero reliable news on our vaccine prospects. It’s so incredibly frustrating to both of us here and all of our circle who are Still Waiting. Yesterday there was a flurry of news saying “maybe June” but they’ve been saying that since December. “Maybe Jan. Maybe Feb. Data in early April!” The goalposts keep moving and I just cannot keep hoping.

1. HUZZAH. I was searching for a place to donate my old eyeglasses that are perfectly good but don’t feel comfortable on my face any longer and I kept striking out searching the Lion’s Club but Shep to the rescue! They found me this link for donation centers. They once needed glasses and were only able to get them through the Lions Club program so if you have old eyeglasses to donate this looks like a great way to do it.
This GoFundMe is for an organization that I’ve supported in the past doing really important work. I’m respecting their request not to state their name in relation to the GFM but I actually know the lawyer mentioned in the post and verified with them personally that this is for their organization. Update: Yay the organization is ok with being identified now. If you can donate to the Survivor’s Project, that would be really swell.
This GoFundMe is to keep the doors of Courage House, A Haven for Abused Women open. I donated directly to save them some fees.
Challenges this week: A lot. This week was a lot.
