Outfit Review

May 15, 2008

I’m ‘fessing up to my $33 outfit transgression today. I’m going to need your *professional* opinions here. A and I were browsing the mall and mostly managed to avoid all shops that I didn’t have gift cards for … except for Papaya. Whoops. Occasionally they have the odd really nice piece on sale, so we checked their clearance racks. As usual, there was a whole lot of nothing, but I turned up this high-waisted, knee length pencil skirt that I couldn’t resist. In the history of pencil skirts, I’m sure I’ve put up better fights.

Sorry the pictures aren’t great; I haven’t figured out how to take better clothing pictures yet, but this is just so you get the idea.

The skirt’s form-fitting, with a few inches of lacing up the back to make it just a bit interesting. I plan to cover up that bit during the day.

And the white silky blouse could probably use another button up top to keep the top of the collar closed.

But, blouse tucked into the skirt with black closed-toe pumps and a black jacket to profesh’ it up… what do you think? Did I make a huge mistake here, or is this a viable outfit?

  1. Chocoholic says:

It’s a basic, black pencil skirt. It’s not something that is going to go out of style and you can wear it to many different kinds of occasion so I think it’s fine. Think about how many times you will wear it versus the price. If it’s an item you will get a lot of use out of, then $33 isn’t bad. And hey, if you feel good in the skirt, even better!

  2. I think it would look great and professional together. The only thing I’d be wary of is the ties in front and the ties at the back of the skirt kind of being too much…

But hey, aren’t you the chick who wears only jeans to work!?!?!? šŸ™‚ hee hee…

  3. ~chocoholic~ Hmm… that’s what I feeling guilty about: CPW! This particular combo was meant for a business trip, and I’m not sure when else I’d bother to dress up quite that much. I’m going to have to work out combinations with other pieces, now.

~FB~ I’ve trimmed the ribbon/tie on the back of the skirt to the absolute minimum, at the original length it was bordering on tacky. I’m thinking I could either replace the buttons or just put a little hook to close the collar so it’s a tad more demure.

And yes! Yes I am šŸ™‚ I’m considering forcing myself to dress more nicely just to get in the habit of utilizing my businessy clothes more than three times a year … but this was originally meant for one of our conferences.

  4. Then go for it. I think it looks HOT šŸ™‚

Esp if you can make it a bit more demure..

Wow *sniffle*… you’re.. getting so big now.. LOL

  5. ~FB~ Hahaha, wait a sec, “considering forcing myself” isn’t the same as actually doing it. Heheh, but I think I’m leaning towards, “try really hard.”

BUT! I declare success! I’ve managed to add the button to the inside collar! I’ll see if I can’t get a good picture of that.

  6. Well, trying really hard is better than not caring at all šŸ™‚

    Good on you!!!

  7. Pictures will be forthcoming, once I figure out how to take photos of myself šŸ™‚
