Life with JB
We’re going through a bumpy phase right now where they keep asking me questions that make no sense to me. Like “what is this?” about a thing in their hand that they would definitely be able to identify if they bothered to take 0.002 seconds to look at it (a sweater). That level of frustratingly “whyyyyy are you asking me this??” that one friend says happens all the time with her teens and another friend claims never happens with her teens. I don’t know what it is but I don’t like, I don’t want it, please make it stop.
Life with Smol Acrobat (5.5)
We’ve been working the “sit with your disappointments” program for about a month and we’re seeing some improvements.
They had a drawing flub and got mad: I messed up! I looked over and they followed up with: but that’s ok, wight, Wee?
It’s been a journey and we’re still slogging through. They’re still struggling with being scolded or told no which sends them directly into an angry funk (I suspect a kid version of the RSD I’d get with bad news or thinking I was in trouble). We’re also working on observing the appropriate behavior for being in a store consistently (no whining, no begging for everything you see, ask politely for a picture to be taken of a want to be added to a wishlist). Making some progress on asking for what you want or need instead of just loudly complaining. It’s the difference between yelling I’m hot!!! vs I’m hot, can you turn on the a/c? Or yelling I’M HUNGRY instead of “May I have a snack?”
PiC took my turn at taking JB to their afternoon activity while I stayed home with SmolAc since they’ve been sick and feverish for 2 days. I was shocked how smooth it was. Fully expecting a tantrum at some point, I had them fill in some reading logs to catch up to all the reading they’ve done, work 3 sheets of a writing and coloring workbook with stickers, put away a small stack of laundry, all before getting to watch the Spidey and His Amazing friends DVD we checked out from the library. I’m taking a minute to observe and appreciate when things go well. (The tantrum did eventually come. But!)
Pupdate
I’m still not ready yet but friend adopted the most beautiful pittie and I love him.
My camera roll right now is 8000 pictures of this

Precious Moments
SmolAc: When can I ride a motorcycle?
Me: Do you know the rules for riding on a motorcycle?
SmolAc: I know! You have to be safe on the road and if you crash, dat’s bad. And you have to balance too.
Me: How would you protect your body?
SmolAc: Clothes. Special clothes. Motorcycle clothes.
SmolAc: These are your four senses: touch feel and smell!
…… ?
Overheard: JB said “Mommy gave this to me.” SmolAc: “Which mommy?”
HOW MANY YOU GOT??
