Oh no! My poor photos!

July 12, 2007

*sigh* I’m holding my breath that BoyDucky has a pristine CD with all our photos from Vietnam because it turns out that my CD is damaged and half the photos aren’t downloadable. It’s probably time to buy a flashdrive or external harddrive to save everything because while I don’t value too many electronic files, my photos are irreplaceable.

Oh I’m sorry to hear that. Family photos are priceless. I need to figure out a better system too.

  2. Well, we have confirmation that he has a CD but we’ll have to go through it today to make sure the rest of the photos are in there.

How do you currently store your photos?

Don’t ask! I started putting prints into albums, but for the past 20 years, everything has been dumped into a drawer. Now it’s in a big carton–I still need to go through and organize it all and then label everything. OTOH, my digital files are sorted into categories and labeled descriptively.

It’s good that you’re thinking about an organizational system when you’re still young and the job isn’t so formidable. There’s some helpful info on this blog:

Look at articles on organizing your photos, ways of naming files, etc. There’s a lot more info on the web, too.

  4. *gasp* that’s awful! I hope it works out for you.

I am a fiend for external hard drives. I own about 3 right now – one 250GB that is too delicate to be used regularly (cheap brand), Western Digital 120GB and a Sandisk 40GB.. and I’m eying up buying another one. It’s the only way I travel with all of my TV shows like sex and the city & music

  5. ~Sabrina~ Oy, I’m so glad that I only have a couple smaller Tupperware boxes of photos, and many of them aren’t that great so I won’t feel compelled to keep them. The good ones are already filed into photo albums, but I’m more worried about my random CDs of photos that aren’t really well organized.

Practical Archivist is interesting, but that’s definitely going to take some time to digest that information.

~Fab’ly broke~ I sure hope I can get by with just one external hard drive! šŸ™‚ Do you like the Western Digital or Sandisk better? I’m going to need something that works with both Mac and PCs, I’ve noticed that my flash drives tend to get formatted one way or the other.
