Sickie tallie

February 14, 2008

Tylenol Cold and Cough liquid (Cool Burst, tastes disgusting): $6.99
Tylenol Chest Congestion tablets: $5.89, with a 10% discount
Generic for Nyquil: $8.99
Hall’s Cough Drops: $1.99
(2) 1/2 gallon cartons of OJ: $6
Regular Extra-Strength Tylenol: $7
Halls Defense Tablets: free, supplied by friend, boss, anyone who doesn’t want me sharing my germs

= $36.86

I’m so thankful for my FSA … I’d be pretty aggravated if I were paying for these out of pocket entirely because I wasn’t prepared to be sick for upwards of two weeks.

ugh. i hope you feel better soon! and at least you didn’t have to buy mucinex. it’s so expensive!

  2. Blue says:

That sucks… but is OJ really covered by an FSA? I’m just curious, I really have no idea.

And if it makes you feel any better, I have the immune system of a newborn child. I tend to get colds for upwards of three weeks at a time, though since I got into college, they’ve been lengthening. I believe my longest record was 3 months. (Which is why, the next time I got to the doc for a checkup, I’m going to ask for an allergy test. I don’t think 3 months is natural for any type of virus. Although I suspect I get overlaying viruses, so I catch one just as I’m getting over another.)

  3. I’ve still got the last remnants of a cold! I found tabasco sauce or hot sauce helps a sore throat and sinuses! And gargling with apple cider vinegar!

  4. 1001 Petals says:

Those medicines only help alleviate the symptoms, but don’t actually get rid of the cold.

Vitamin C and zinc will boost your immune system and thus help your body get rid of the virus quicker.

    All the best!

  5. ~Ms.M&P~ I was actually in the cough med aisle half yelling at the shelves “I don’t want more productive coughs, I want to STOP COUGHING.”

~Blue~ Oh no, OJ isn’t covered by an FSA, I misspoke. The meds were covered.

I don’t know if I could deal with having a cold for much longer, this cough is in its third week, and I’m quite sick o’ being sick.

~SFMM~ Oy vay, tabasco or hot sauce? I can’t tolerate spicy foods or else I’d totally try that.

~1001 petals~ That’s true, although they hardly even do that much. I’ve got the Vit C covered, but perhaps I need to add zinc to the regimen.

  6. Jesse says:

I highly suggest lots of vitamin C (you can get the chewable tabs for $2) and green tea (99 cents for a pack) and zinc lozenges (2-4 dollars). These are cheap things that I have found drastically reduce my cold length…
