That’s …. strange

LB interviewed a high schooler for an internship today. But his dad not only brought him here, he’s sitting in on the interview.
Huh?
I remember a handful of interviews from high school, and a parent may have driven me to each one, but they certainly never accompanied me to the door, walked me in, or interviewed with me. Then again, I was a latchkey kid, and pretty independent early on.
Is it just me, or is that weird?
That’s just weird. Driving in is ok – but sitting in on the conversation isn’t. I don’t think my parents would have done that even if I wanted them to! Shows no independence. I feel bad for the kid.
I agree with L! I wouldn’t hire the kid because his parent may come to work with him! Plus, if anyone says anything mean, you’re going to hear about it from the parent. I would say that’s a no go area!
yup, that’s weird! There’s no reason to sit in–if the kid gives a ‘wrong’ answer, is the parent going to correct it? there’s nothing, conceivably, that the parent can help with in an interview that the kid can’t do himself.

~sense~ I felt like LB did most of the talking, actually, and when I spoke to them, the dad answered every question I directed at the kid.

What can a girl do?
So weird! We once had a young man drop off an application for an hourly position open in the company. (We do janitorial work, so we have lots of off-site employees.) First, he argued with me about the background check. We require employees to have a local background check run. He argued that his mother is in human resources and she said it’s against the law to require employees to get their own background check. I tell him it’s not, accept his application, and send him on his way.
Next thing I know his mother is calling us! She didn’t even mention the background check, just went on and on about what a great employee he would make. Seriously? Jeez louise!
