Travellin’ (wo)man

August 17, 2008

Whew. Home again, and it’s a bit of an oven here. The wedding was gorgeous, the food was delicious and dancing was good ole ’60s music, with a dash of Prince and Jackson (Michael) for the young ‘uns. Must have got some weird taste in music sinceI knew just about every song the DJ played, while our retired friend kept exclaiming, “this is my kind of music!”

I got a lot of career advice from said retired friend. She was pretty high up the chain in the corporate world before she retired and had a lot of insight and opinions to share. Also, a book recommendation, and an introduction to some of her good friends who are in business or banking. She’s very intent on mentoring us and helping us expand our networks through her contacts, which is mighty generous of her.

Have discovered the Furminator and absolutely love it. Thirty dollars for a dog brush?? But it works so well! *internal debate* This would be dead useful for my big fuzzball of a dog, she’s so furry that she gets clumpy when I don’t brush her enough. Will consider it.

Time for bed to start the week off right, hope y’all had a great weekend!

  1. So lucky that you found someone who is interested in being a mentor! I find (in my industry at least) that sometimes people will try to jealously guard their knowledge so that they can be the only one who knows it.

Paranoidasteroid: I’ve only one mentor/friend in my industry. This friend, calling her “M”, is actually retired from another industry entirely but she’s quite familiar with corporate politics.

I wish there were more respected folks in my industry that I could build that kind of relationship with but I’m grateful for good friends wherever they’re from.

Buy the furminator! I bought the blue (not sure if it’s S or M) for my 35-40lb dog.

karen: So you’re loving it too? I thought I was just a sucker for doggy related items. I’m finding it for just under $30 on Amazon, is that about what you paid?

  5. Karen says:

Revanche: I paid more actually; bought mine at Petsmart.
meijer.com has them on sale now: $23, $28 and $40 depending on size. Or try drugstore.com

Oh and I have the Pet Hair Eraser vacuum by Bissel (couldn’t get myself to pay for a Dyson). I like it. Helped that I cashed in points for a $100 Target gc. šŸ™‚

karen: Lucky for me, my dog isn’t too interested in being inside the house all the time. Otherwise I WOULD need a pet vacuum. How do you like the Bissell?

I was going to buy from Amazon since they have it for $28 and free shipping, but good call on drugstore.com! I think that might be the better deal … will post after I do a bit of a price comparison.

  7. Karen says:

revanche: I like it rather well. You can also buy the contour tool and turbobrush separately. It’s called the Pet Pack and it’s $30 on the Bissell site.

  8. Karen says:

revanche: I forgot to add that it’s a bit heavy. I think it weighs 25lbs
