Who gets IOUs? We do!

July 14, 2009

I may still be in NY right now, but I’ve been keeping up with tidbits of news about California, namely, the financial situation.

While discussing this with my friend, she asked who would be affected by the IOU situation and I wasn’t really sure. My assumption was that state contractors and vendors would be, and that state employees would find their work hours affected as well as delayed paychecks. I’d forgotten that income tax returns would be IOUed as well, and Jonathan of My Money Blog, has received one of his very own.

That makes me wonder if unemployment will be protected from this issue, and for how long? If we’re broke, we’re broke. And I’ll have to make some interesting changes to my projected budget for the next few months if nothing turns up on the job front!

I’d like to see the state’s reaction if everybody decided to pay their bills using IOU’s!

And is the state still paying for the MJ memorial??

  2. Mayor of L.A. said it was “ridiculous” that the city was trying to get donations for the MJ memorial. So looks like we’re on the hook

That hot dog photo makes me want one!

They did say you can pay your estimated taxes with your IOUs. Seems so silly!

Supposedly unemployment is safe for now, I really hope so cuz Mr M hasn’t worked at all in nearly 2 months šŸ™

L.A. Daze: The slightly bitter part of me mutters: the jails are already too full, what are they going to do to us? But of course they have options. šŸ˜›

stackingpennies: That’s really lame. Why is it ridiculous to defray the costs of a memorial when We Are Broke?!?

Hate to say it, but Costco dogs are better.

Miss M: Let’s hope so. I have to go home and get that paperwork processed! Hiding out here has done nothing for my supplemental income.
