The contradictions that really annoy me about the workplace and how women have to navigate it.
And Lela Lee pretty much hits the nail on the head here. That middle panel is my first request for a raise all over again.
Laura Vanderkam on negotiations: Men get a boost from small talk, women don’t. But you still can’t skip it.
FUN THINGS
Kelly Sue DeConnick on marriage and names. I generally refer to them as House DeFraction myself, but this bit was my favorite: “It didn’t hurt that Kelly means warrior and DeConnick is a derivative of the king, so my name roughly translates to Warrior King… you don’t change your name when your name means WARRIOR KING.”
You really don’t.
FWIW, that’s kind of how it went down w/me and PiC. He wasn’t hurt, it was my decision and my decision was I have been My Name my whole life. While I was open to us both changing or his changing, I didn’t feel any resonance with changing my own to his. Made sense to him, and since he didn’t feel the need to change his name either, we’re staying Our Separate Names.
INTERESTING THINGS
This story is heartbreaking; this is why the bans on abortion that pay little to no attention to medical realities and nuance and complication make absolutely no sense to me. We’re tying the hands of healthcare providers to offer their patients the best possible course of action in terrible situations.
