Good Things Friday (308) and Link Love

January 17, 2025

We’ve donated to WCK and Pasadena Human Society and to the following GoFundMes to help folks affected by the fire:

Maria and Rudolph’s home was destroyed.
Jordan Mitchell lost his father and brother and home.
Tragic Sandwich‘s friend lost their home.

Courtney Milan shared these in her newsletter: “In all of these cases, I personally know someone who is connected to these families, and who has vouched for their authenticity.”

Just a little link love

From 2023 but this is the first time I recall seeing this. It’s sickening: New Florida standards teach students that some Black people benefited from slavery because it taught useful skills
The standards, which were blasted by a statewide teachers’ union as a “step backward,” were approved Wednesday by the State Board of Education.

Everyone we know in the area knows someone who has lost a home to the SoCal Fires.

This one’s important. Imagine being a billionaire able to click on every one of these GoFundMes and completing them. Since they can’t be bothered (well, one is inclined to this kind of philanthropy but can’t just wait on her), I’m going through and donating to as many as I can. Every bit will count. 1. Thank you so much! We’re very grateful that we’re in a part of town that has remained safe, and heartbroken for our friends and everyone else who has lost so much.
