CAREER + MONEY THINGS
Differences between workaholics and high-performers. Not entirely sure I agree with all of these, but following their stated criteria, most of the time I’m a high-performer. I choose what I’m going to do and when, ensure that tasks are completed to my satisfaction, in the right order (as determined by me, of course), and most of the time it’s based on highest efficiency. Sometimes it’s based on who annoys me the most. That I’m a little less proud of.
Wealth management puts the wealthy beyond the reach of the law. New life goal: attaining this level of wealth. But plot twist! Use the power for good.
I like the area but not so much many of the people or the land-use politics or the dot com effect.
FUN THINGS
I laughed at these two comics poking Star Trek for their lack of diversity and then poking them with how more diversity could be come about. I don’t agree with this Tumblr that apparently thinks the comic creator was anti-diversity but it hosts both so here tis.
INTERESTING THINGS
Thanks to Andrea for pointing out this interview with Wendell Berry. I agree the questions were totally inadequate but the answers are still thoughtful.
Emotional labor is a new phrase to me, but the act of performing it is absolutely not. And my home life definitely suffered when I pasted on the fake smile at work while I was stressed, grieving, or utterly drained. Wearing that mask may preserve you professionally, but it can destroy you inside.
