CAREER + MONEY THINGS
Academic predators are extraordinarily well protected
Cloud’s takeaways from BinderCon. My favorites: the “build a community” approach – this speaks more to healthy and supportive relationships rather than give-take salesy relationships. “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable” – I am not good at this but I can get ok with being uncomfortable.
Also, Cloud’s realization about Hillary Clinton is one I have had about a few women in power from when I was growing up: “But most importantly, she does the work, and keeps trying.”
No matter what I think of her work, her politics, or anything else, I do admire her work ethic. She does keep on working toward her goals and that’s something we can all take away.
FUN THINGS
The culinary education of Mr. Mozzarella Sticks. I wasn’t sure what to expect but this was a fun and funny read.
INTERESTING THINGS
The media is complicit in Trump’s rise:
“All politicians spin, of course. But all in all, I’ve never met a national politician in the U.S. who is so ill informed, evasive, puerile and deceptive as Trump.”
“But I have not failed to notice the sexist undertones- hell, the overt sexism- in a lot of the arguments against Hillary Clinton. I don’t dislike Bernie Sanders, but I really dislike the way a lot of people argue for him.” This, always this.

I have never seen or heard a male come under as many ad hominem attacks about their appearance as a woman does in any given situation, on any single day. There are perfectly good reasons to oppose someone and their looks have nothing to do with it.
